After lunch, we take a nostalgic return steam train ride on the Churnet Valley Railway from Froghall Station. Re-live the classic days of rail travel on this rural line through beautiful countryside, with riverside views and the Caldon Canal, known as Staffordshire's ‘Little Switzerland’. This morning we travel to Cumbria arriving at the historic market town of Appleby with some free time for lunch and exploring. This afternoon is the highlight of our trip as we enjoy a journey on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line, joining the daily diesel passenger service at Appleby and travelling through the picturesque countryside to Settle. This journey is renowned as one of the most scenic in the country travelling through spectacular scenery and across iconic structures such as the Ribblehead Viaduct, measuring 104 metres high, with 24 arches. We return home by coach.
